Susan M Ditter, M.D., M.P.H., a Forensic Psychiatrist in Virginia. She is board certified in Forensic Psychiatry and Neurology. She performs mental health evaluations in a variety of criminal and civil matters. addressing issues ranging from insanity at the time of the offense, to the determination of damages/causation and breaches of the standard of care.
In addition, she performs domestic violence assessments and evaluates the effects of trauma on adolescent development and behavior. Dr. Ditter has a special interest in domestic violence, which has been the focus of her research and presentations at professional meetings. She is also a member of a domestic violence death review committee. She has testified as an expert witness in California and Virginia.
As a neurologist, Dr. Ditter has particular expertise in neurological disorders, including traumatic brain injury, behavioral effects of medical illnesses, seizures and automatisms, and medical malpractice. She has special expertise in the effects of medications and illicit drugs on behavior, including in criminal behavior and dementing illnesses.
Dr. Ditter completed her medical degree and neurology residency, and was on faculty at Emory University in Atlanta. A Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders fellowship at Rush Presbyterian in Chicago followed. After practicing neurology, she returned to Emory for her Masters of Public Health in Behavioral Science. This then was followed by a psychiatry residency and forensic psychiatry fellowship at University of Virginia, where she was also on faculty.
